Ryan spent eight years behind bars in Singapore and Bangkok before opening Low Tide: 40 seats on a second floor, with a menu built around local ingredients. Weekends looked after themselves. Monday to Wednesday didn’t:
- Events: live jazz Thursdays and monthly guest bartender nights were promoted with a poster on Instagram stories a few days before. They brought in the same 30 regulars every time.
- Event footage: shaky phone clips, posted once and gone.
- Instagram: cocktail close-ups that looked like every other bar’s feed.
- Ads: none. Ryan wasn’t sure what he was allowed to advertise.
- Private bookings: they came only through word of mouth.
The events were the best thing about Low Tide, and almost nobody outside the regulars knew they happened.

“Is there anywhere good to go on a Tuesday?”
People weren’t looking for another cocktail. They were looking for something to do on a weeknight. So we stopped selling drinks and started selling nights: the guest bartender, the band, and the people in the room.
The guest shift
In month two, a bartender from one of Singapore’s best-known bars did a one-night guest shift. The teaser Reel went out ten days before and ran as an ad to adults within 10 km. All 120 guest-list spots were gone in 36 hours. We filmed the night, and the 45-second recap became the bar’s most-saved post. A month later, a creative agency booked the whole bar for its year-end party after seeing it.
The system, month by month
The team it replaced
- 2.7×
- weeknight guests
- 9 of 10
- events sold out
- Rp200M
- in private bookings from event content
Five months later
- Weeknight guests went up 2.7×. Tuesdays now have a standing event.
- 9 of 10 ticketed events sold out, most of them through the WhatsApp guest list.
- Private and corporate bookings worth Rp200,000,000 came in. Most enquiries named a specific event video.
- Regulars went from 30 people to a guest list of 1,400.
“I used to throw great nights for the same 30 people. Now the nights sell themselves, and the videos keep selling the bar long after.”
